Global Wind Service (GWS) has been awarded an installation contract for RWE's Thor offshore wind farm in the Danish North Sea. The contract involves the installation of 72 secondary structures on the monopile foundations for the 1.1GW wind farm, located west of Nissum Fjord, Denmark.
The installation of these secondary structures is scheduled for 2025, with a team of 60 technicians set to be deployed across various roles. GWS has already been involved in preparations for the project since September 2024, collaborating closely with RWE's Thor wind farm team and specialist tool manufacturers. Key activities have included developing lift plans, conducting mock-up trials, and planning for health and safety protocols.
“We are thrilled to be chosen by RWE to deliver this project and to continue our strong partnership in renewable energy,” said Adrian Yeaman, sales manager at GWS.
Thomas Bak Mathiasen, chief commissioning officer at GWS, praised the collaborative efforts of the project management teams from both GWS and RWE. “It's great to already see the different teams come together and collaborate as ‘one team' in all matters, and a testament to the strength of relationships at management and operational levels,” he added.
This partnership is not the first between GWS and RWE. In February 2024, the two companies signed a strategic three-year agreement aimed at supporting RWE's offshore wind fleet servicing unit in the UK and Germany. The Thor offshore wind farm project is expected to further strengthen their ongoing collaboration in the offshore wind energy sector.
