Consultancy firm ABL has been awarded a contract by Polish energy company PGE and Danish developer Orsted to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services for the 1,500 MW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, which will be located in the Polish section of the Baltic Sea.
The Baltica 2 project, situated 40 kilometers off the coast of Poland, is set to feature 107 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW, along with four substations mounted on monopile foundations. The wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027.
Under the terms of the contract, ABL will be responsible for ensuring the successful marine transportation and offshore installation (T&I) of the turbines. Specifically, ABL's duties will include technical reviews of project documentation, the approval of drawings and calculations, as well as the provision of marine assurance and risk services. This will involve conducting vessel suitability surveys for the fleet intended for use and performing dynamic positioning (DP) trials when necessary. ABL will also provide on-site oversight to review, approve, and supervise all warranted operations.
Tilo Klappenbach, ABL's country manager in Germany, commented, “Along with our sister company OWC, who is based in Poland, we have significant experience in supporting the Baltic Sea's offshore wind development in a number of capacities. This includes our work as MWS to support the construction of the Baltic Eagle offshore wind project and supporting more than 3 GW of potential offshore wind capacity with a range of engineering services, from technical advisory, cost engineering, geotechnical and GIS support.
The project will be managed from ABL's Hamburg office, with on-site services and vessel surveys supported by the firm's European network, which includes offices in Norway, the Netherlands, France, and the UK. ABL will also collaborate with its Polish counterpart, OWC, which operates offices in Warsaw and Gdansk, to leverage its expertise in advisory and engineering consultancy.
