Plenitude, an Italian renewables company, and its partner Infrastrutture SpA have completed the construction of a 37MW agrivoltaic plant in the municipality of Montalto di Castro, Lazio. The plant, now operational, is expected to produce over 70GWh of electricity annually, which is sufficient to meet the energy needs of more than 22,000 households.
The project was developed through a joint venture between Plenitude and Infrastrutture SpA, known as Hergo Renewables. This new addition brings Plenitude’s total installed renewable energy capacity in Italy to more than 1GW. The company views the Montalto di Castro plant as just the first step in an expanding pipeline of solar projects in both Italy and Spain.
Paolo Bellucci, Plenitude’s head of renewable energy in Italy, expressed the company’s pride in the project’s completion, stating, “We are proud of the Montalto di Castro plant commissioning, one of our largest photovoltaic parks in Italy, which confirms Plenitude’s commitment to renewable energy production growth in the country, in line with the company’s goal of reaching 10GW of installed capacity from renewable sources by 2028.”
The agrivoltaic plant also reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability. Hergo Renewables worked with the National Biodiversity Future Centre (NBFC), coordinated by the National Research Council (CNR), to ensure the project respects local biodiversity.
Pier Francesco Rimbotti, CEO of Hergo Renewables, highlighted the collaboration with CNR, stating, “With this project, we are inaugurating our collaboration with the CNR within the National Biodiversity Future Centre. As part of this important initiative, together with the CNR and the University of Tuscia, we will study nature-based solutions to build plants increasingly integrated into the territory.”
Plenitude holds a 65% stake in Hergo Renewables, with Infrastrutture owning the remaining 35%.
