CDWE has officially launched its 2025 construction campaign for the 1GW Hai Long offshore wind project, located off the coast of Taiwan. The first installation phase was completed in November of last year, with the jacket foundations for Hai Long 2 successfully installed. Additionally, the foundation for the Hai Long 3 offshore substation was completed during this phase.
The work was carried out by CDWE's heavy lift vessel, Green Jade, which also undertook maintenance during the winter pause in operations due to weather conditions. The vessel has now been readied for this year's construction activities.
Building on the progress from 2024, CDWE has recently completed the installation of pin piles at the first Hai Long 3 locations. The project, located approximately 45 km to 70 km off the coast of Changhua in the Taiwan Strait, is a two-phase development.
A spokesperson for CDWE commented, “Our dedicated Hai Long project team and valued partners have worked seamlessly with the Hai Long client team, keeping the project on track for timely completion. Alongside the celebration of CDWE's sixth anniversary and this important milestone, we remain vigilant and humble about the journey ahead, made possible by our incredible team and Green Jade.”
The Hai Long wind farm is being developed in two phases: the Hai Long 2A wind farm, which is allocated 300 MW of grid-connected capacity, and the Hai Long 2B and 3 arrays, which were awarded a combined 744 MW of capacity in Taiwan's first offshore wind auction in 2018.
CDWE continues to make significant strides in offshore wind development in Taiwan, with expectations that the Hai Long project will contribute substantially to the region's renewable energy capacity.
