Polish construction company Doraco has been awarded the contract to design and build the operational and service base for the PGE Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, a joint venture between PGE and Orsted. The 1500 MW wind farm will be supported by new port infrastructure and buildings at the Ustka port in northern Poland.
The selection of Doraco follows a competitive tender process initiated in December 2024. While one bidder appealed the decision, a subsequent evaluation reaffirmed Doraco's bid in February 2025, with no further appeals filed. Doraco Construction Corporation, based in Gdańsk, is well-known for its previous work in the modernization of ports in Szczecin, Gdynia, and Frombork.
The Ustka port project will see the construction of office and social facilities, a warehouse, a maneuvering area, and a quay for service vessels. These vessels, known as Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV), will transport personnel to and from the offshore wind farm. The new facilities, covering an area of approximately 2.3 hectares, are slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.
“This project is a significant milestone in the development of the PGE Baltica 2 offshore wind farm,” said a spokesperson for the joint venture. “The O&M base will play a key role in ensuring the continued operation and maintenance of the wind farm, which is crucial for the success of Poland's renewable energy ambitions.”
Construction work is expected to begin in the spring of 2025, with Sweco Polska appointed as the contract engineer to oversee the design and construction processes.
The PGE Baltica 2 offshore wind farm is part of Poland's broader efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity and meet ambitious climate targets in the coming decades.
