GE Vernova and AWS Sign Agreement to Advance Onshore Wind Projects for Data Centres

GE Vernova and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have entered into a strategic framework agreement to jointly develop onshore wind projects, aiming to support AWS's expanding data centre business. The collaboration is part of a broader initiative to enhance AWS's energy efficiency and sustainability efforts.

Pablo Koziner, Chief Commercial Officer at GE Vernova, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited to work in collaboration with AWS as they advance their computing capabilities and data centre capacity. We believe that GE Vernova is well-positioned through its broad portfolio of energy products and services to help AWS obtain reliable, cost-effective, and more sustainable electricity for its data centres in support of their growth objectives.”

As part of the collaboration, AWS will also work with GE Vernova's Electrification Software division, aiming to support AWS Cloud deployments of software related to electric grids, power generation, and manufacturing industries.

Howard Gefen, General Manager of Energy and Utilities at AWS, highlighted the shared goals of the collaboration, saying, “Through this expanded collaboration with GE Vernova, we'll be able to accelerate data and energy efficiencies, driving reliable and more sustainable operations. Our shared goals of addressing increased global energy demand, advancing grid security, and decarbonizing electric power systems will help our customers across the globe.”

The agreement, whose financial terms were not disclosed, is seen as a significant step toward meeting both companies' sustainability goals while ensuring reliable energy for AWS's growing global data centre operations. The partnership underscores the growing need for energy solutions that support the technological required for the modern digital economy.
