Danish consultancy Lautec has introduced a live public tracking platform for the ongoing construction of RWE's 1,400MW Sofia offshore wind farm, one of the UK's largest renewable energy projects.
The interactive platform allows the public to track construction milestones and vessel movements in real-time at the Dogger Bank site, where the 1.4GW wind farm is under development. The demo platform, developed by Lautec, provides updates on key milestones including rock installation, monopile installation, secondary steel installation, and inter-array cable laying and burial.
In addition to milestone tracking, users can monitor the live locations of construction vessels operating in the area, including Van Oord's Aeolus and Calypso. The platform is updated every two minutes via MarineTraffic, and includes a timelapse replay feature to explore past vessel movements.
Henrik Iversen, Managing Partner and Head of IT at Lautec, emphasized the value of real-time tracking, saying, “Our software provides live, situational awareness of project execution for your team – making sure everyone involved has the full picture of current challenges and opportunities.”
The platform draws data from Sea Impact's market intelligence feed, Lautec's WindGIS and DPR SaaS Platform modules, and MarineTraffic's AIS feed. Iversen further added, “With this kind of in-depth tracking, teams and stakeholders can see exactly what's happening offshore – and this demo based on commercially available data is just the tip of the iceberg of what our full SaaS Platform can do for our clients' projects.”
The Sofia offshore wind farm, located 195 km off the northeast coast of the UK in the North Sea, is scheduled for completion in 2026.
