Codling Wind Park, a joint venture between EDF Renewables and Fred Olsen Seawind, has announced its success in Ireland's first-ever offshore wind energy auction. The company has secured the rights to develop a 1300MW project under the Offshore Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (ORESS).
The ORESS bid was confirmed by EirGrid, and the final auction results are due to be issued in mid-June. Commenting on the successful bid, Co-project Directors Scott Sutherland and Thomas Gellert stated that this is a significant step towards making Ireland energy self-sufficient and fighting climate change.
EDF Renewables UK and Ireland's Chief Executive, Matthieu Hue, welcomed the news as a positive step forward for the Irish offshore industry. Hue emphasized that Codling Wind Park will play a crucial role in helping Ireland meet its renewable energy targets while securing its energy supply.
