Green Marine UK has revealed plans for a significant expansion with a seven-figure capital investment aimed at establishing a new Subsea Services Department, targeting the UK's rapidly growing offshore wind sector.
The expansion, which is supported by funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), includes the acquisition of advanced subsea technology from key suppliers such as Rovtech (Seatronics), Sonardyne, Norbit, Voyis, Tritech, Digital Edge Subsea, and EIVA, among others. This cutting-edge equipment will be integral to the company's new offering of turnkey solutions and data services.
The Subsea Services Department is expected to officially launch in late spring and will specialize in a variety of services, including General Visual Inspection (GVI), 3D Surveying with real-time SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) analysis, Marine Site Characterization, Multibeam surveys, and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) monitoring, with a focus on subsea cables, pipelines, and offshore structures.
Green Marine anticipates the “service addressable market” for subsea O&M services within the UK offshore wind sector to exceed £270 million by 2030, as highlighted by studies from the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (OREC), a technology innovation and research center dedicated to offshore renewable energy.
Jason Schofield, managing director of Green Marine UK, emphasized the significance of the expansion in the company's broader growth strategy. “Green Marine has built a strong track record over many years with particular success in the offshore wind sector,” Schofield said. “The unique skills and experience we've developed during this period have put us in prime position to diversify in line with growing industry demand.”
He continued, “While this entails an initial seven-figure capital investment, the longer-term company strategy is to continue investing and expanding way into the future. We benefit from a strategic location in Orkney with the world's second-largest installed offshore wind capacity on our doorstep. This represents a significant growth opportunity for Green Marine UK and a vehicle to drive jobs and business expansion for many years to come.”
Myles Metson, operations and technology director, noted that the expansion aligns with the company's ongoing commitment to acquiring more assets and expanding in-house operations. A standout addition to the Subsea Services Department's capabilities is the acquisition of Rovtech's VALOR ROV, a lightweight, portable system that has set new industry standards for data collection and physical intervention.
The company's expansion follows a track record of high-profile project work, including contributions to the world's largest offshore wind farm, Dogger Bank, and the world's largest floating offshore wind farm, Kincardine.
