SSE Renewables has announced that its Chaintrix-Bierges and Vélye in northeast France is now fully operational, following the completion of the 28MW project. This marks the first operational asset delivered by SSE from its portfolio of onshore wind projects in mainland Europe.

Located across the communes of Chaintrix-Bierges and Vélye in the Grand-Est region, the wind farm features eight Siemens Gamesa SG 3.4-132 turbines. Renewable energy is now being generated from all of these turbines, contributing to the region's energy supply.

Construction on the wind farm began in late 2023 and was led by lead contractor Omexom, in collaboration with local civils contractor Pothelet. The project was completed on time and within budget, with a total capital investment exceeding €30 million by SSE Renewables.

This investment has contributed to the local economy, supporting around 80 construction jobs during peak delivery in the Grand-Est region.

Delphine Henri, France director at SSE Renewables, commented, “Reaching full operations at our Chaintrix-Bierges and Vélye Wind Farm is a fantastic moment for SSE Renewables and marks the disciplined delivery and completion of SSE's first operational asset in mainland Europe.

Henri added, “To deliver the project on time and on budget is a testament to the hard work of all involved and I'd like to thank all our employees and our construction partners for their efforts.
