Collett & Sons has successfully delivered 216 wind turbine components for the 108MW Limekiln Wind Farm in the Scottish Highlands, which is under construction by Boralex. The project features 24 Vestas V136 turbines.
The delivery involved transporting the turbine components, including 67-meter-long blades and base tower sections, to the wind farm site located on the Limekiln Estate, just south of Reay Caithness. The components arrived at Scrabster Port before being moved directly to the on-site storage area.
According to Collett, the transportation was carefully planned to align with the wind farm's construction schedule. Key components, such as the blades and 74-tonne base tower sections, were delivered using specialized trailers, including Nooteboom Super Wing Carrier trailers for the blades and the company's new 3×7 Nooteboom clamps for the base tower sections.
“Police escorts were arranged for blades and tower sections up to the site entrance, with Collett's escort fleet continuing the journey across the site,” Collett said in a statement.
In addition to the blades and base tower sections, other turbine components, such as the mid-tower, top tower, nacelle, drive train, and hub, were transported using 6-axle stepframe trailers. The delivery route covered a 45-minute stretch before entering the wind farm and navigating its expansive site to reach the designated pads.
This delivery marks another successful operation for Collett & Sons, which continues to support the logistics for renewable energy projects across the UK.
