Siemens Gamesa has confirmed plans to invest €200 million to expand its offshore wind blade manufacturing facility in Le Havre, northern France. The company stated that construction of the expanded facility will be completed next year, followed by a ramp-up in production at the site, which was first established in 2022.

The primary focus of the expanded factory will be the production of 115-meter-long blades for 14MW turbines, a market for which Siemens Gamesa claims it holds more than 16GW worth of firm orders.

Siemens Gamesa has already installed 1GW of offshore wind capacity in France and is on track to reach 2.5GW with additional projects currently in development.

Yara Chakhtoura, Managing Director of Siemens Energy France, commented on the significance of the investment: “The investment announced today confirms the importance of our French manufacturing site as a strategic production facility for the growth of the offshore wind market. We are expanding our capacity by strengthening the skills and we already have locally.”

Chakhtoura also emphasized the importance of the investment to both France and Europe, noting, “With this investment and expansion of our factory in Le Havre, France and Europe continue to play an integral role in Siemens Gamesa's development, manufacturing, and installation of offshore wind turbines.”

The investment is seen as a positive move for the French offshore wind industry, benefiting the local value chain and enhancing European competitiveness in the broader energy transition.

Siemens Gamesa also expressed its gratitude to the French government and the European Union for their continued support of the green energy transition, which strengthens the offshore wind sector in the region.
