Acciona Energia has finished installing all wind turbines at the Forty Mile wind project in Bow Island, Alberta. The 280-megawatt wind farm, one of the ten largest in Canada, features 49 Nordex turbines, each with a 5.7-megawatt capacity and a tower height of 108 meters.
As of now, 14 of the 49 turbines have been connected to the grid. The project, the largest of its kind that Acciona Energia has built in North America, is expected to generate enough clean energy to power more than 85,000 homes once fully operational.
“More than 250 workers braved extreme weather conditions, including temperatures as low as -29°C, to safely advance the project's construction,” Acciona Energia said. The company highlighted the importance of specialized safety protocols and a winter work plan in achieving this milestone.
The remaining turbines are still being connected, and the wind farm is scheduled to be fully operational by this spring.
