Jord Engineering has made a significant investment in SwitcH2 BV, a project developer focused on green hydrogen and ammonia production, to help finalize the design of a groundbreaking 300MW offshore floating ammonia production facility in Portugal. Under the terms of the agreement, Jord Group’s subsidiary JOGS will contribute its expertise to the final design phase of SwitcH2’s Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which is set to produce renewable ammonia.
JOGS, known for its work in the global FPSO industry, specializes in the design and construction of topside modules. SwitcH2’s flagship project will integrate Ohmium’s PEM electrolyser technology, ThyssenKrupp’s ammonia synthesis process, and ABB’s electrical and control systems. The project will be powered by nearby solar and wind energy, with the floating facility intended to produce green ammonia for local consumption and export to Benelux ports.
SwitcH2 Managing Director and Co-Founder Saskia Kunst expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “We are very pleased to be able to tap into Jord’s wealth of chemical engineering and construction experience.” She added that the collaboration aligns well with the complementary skills of SwitcH2’s investors, including BW Offshore and Dutch Oceans Capital.
Michel Bosman, Managing Director of JOGS, also highlighted the importance of the project, stating, “Jord is fully committed to the energy transition and delighted to have this opportunity to both invest in and help construct this landmark, future-focused project.
