Estonia is inviting developers to submit licence applications for a 552MW offshore wind farm project in the Saare 7 area, following an application from Sunly Wind. The Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA) has called for bids for the project, which will be located around 11km west of Saaremaa.
Sunly Wind's application proposes the installation of 46 wind turbines, along with a substation and submarine cables, in the Saare 7 area. The turbines will stand up to 165 metres above the water level, with rotor diameters reaching up to 264 metres. Each turbine is expected to have a capacity of up to 15MW, bringing the total capacity of the wind farm to 552MW.
The CPTRA has set a deadline of March 18 for interested parties to submit competing applications. If multiple applications meet the necessary criteria, the authority will organize an auction before initiating the licence procedure.
The move is part of Estonia's broader efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity and accelerate the development of offshore wind energy in the region.
