DRI, the EU renewables division of Ukrainian energy firm DTEK, has successfully connected its 60-megawatt (MW) Glodeni II solar park to the grid in Romania. This marks the company’s third operational renewable energy project in the country, increasing its total capacity to 173 MW.
Located in Mureș County, Glodeni II has an estimated annual production of 86.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh), enough to power over 22,400 homes per year. The project is DRI’s second solar park in Romania, following the 53MWp Glodeni I. Together, the two solar parks form one of the largest solar developments in the country.
In addition to the Glodeni solar projects, DRI also operates a 60MWp wind farm in Ruginoasa, Iași County, which became operational in December 2023. The company has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with energy producer OMV Petrom, under which 62% of the energy generated by the two Glodeni solar parks will be sold. This PPA is noted as Romania’s largest physical solar power purchase agreement.
Ivan Geliukh, CEO of DRI, commented on the milestone, saying: “2025 begins with a major success for DRI as we saw our third project, Glodeni II, becoming operational. The construction of this project was entirely managed by DRI’s in-house team of experts, showcasing our ability to move at pace and add real value through our extensive engineering, supply chain and construction management experience.
Geliukh further emphasized the company’s commitment to Romania’s renewable energy goals, stating: “Romania has set ambitious renewable energy targets and DRI is happy to contribute to the government’s goals and is quickly becoming one of the main investors in the country, where we are about to start the construction of an additional, third solar park in the Bucharest region as well.
The completion of Glodeni II solidifies DRI’s growing presence in Romania’s renewable energy sector, aligning with the country’s efforts to increase its renewable capacity and achieve sustainability objectives.
