Boom Power's plans for the 400MW East Yorkshire Solar Farm have reached a key milestone with the conclusion of the six-month examination period for the project's Development Consent Order (DCO). This marks significant progress for the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), located between Gribthorpe, Spaldington, Wressle, and Howden.
The Examining Authority will now compile its recommendations, with a decision from the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, anticipated by May 2025. If approved, the solar farm will connect to the National Grid at the Drax substation in North Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, Boom Power has submitted another NSIP proposal for the Fenwick Solar Farm near Doncaster. The project will feature solar modules and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to facilitate grid balancing by exporting and importing electricity. Once operational, Fenwick Solar Farm will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 75,000 homes.
Boom Power founder Mark Hogan expressed optimism about the projects, stating: “The East Yorkshire Solar Farm is a brilliant project that will strengthen the UK's energy security. Similarly, Fenwick will help to meet the urgent need for a secure, affordable and decarbonised UK electricity system. These two projects will collectively make a vast imprint on addressing the issue of climate change.”
