Arevon Energy Inc, a US-based renewables company, has officially inaugurated its 157-MW DC Vikings solar park in Imperial County, California, which is paired with a 150-MW/600-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project, which represents an investment of USD 529 million (EUR 508.2 million), was announced on Thursday.
Located near Holtville, the Vikings solar park is one of the first utility-scale solar peaker plants in the United States. The photovoltaic (PV) farm is equipped with First Solar's thin-film panels and utilizes Nextracker's tracking systems.
Tesla Inc. supplied the battery technology for the project, while SOLV Energy, based in San Diego, handled the engineering, procurement, and construction.
“The project incorporates solar panels, trackers, and batteries that showcase the growing strength of US renewable energy manufacturing,” Arevon noted.
The solar-plus-storage facility will operate under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with San Diego Community Power, a local community choice aggregator (CCA).
Arevon Energy currently operates nearly 2,500 MW of renewable energy projects in California, with more than 1,200 MW under construction.
