Energy storage developer Field has achieved the highest score among 300 applications in Spain's inaugural grant program for battery storage projects. Managed by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings, part of Spain's Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, the program aims to advance the country's clean energy and storage infrastructure goals.
Field's awarded project, a 192MWh grid-scale battery installation, will be located in northern Spain. Once operational, it will contribute to national targets of achieving 81% renewable energy in the energy mix and deploying 22GW of storage capacity by 2030, enhancing grid reliability and sustainability.
Backed by CVC DIF, Field leverages a team with expertise from leading energy firms such as Aurora, Total, Statkraft, and Trina Solar. The company aims to establish itself as a major player in Spain's energy storage sector, developing and operating its own projects.
Toni Martinez, Field's general manager, emphasized the significance of the award. “This recognition reflects the quality of our development work and the expertise of our team in delivering solutions to the climate crisis. We are committed to building and operating projects that support a greener, more resilient energy system in Spain,” he said.
The grant represents the first round of the Spanish government's initiative to support energy storage deployment, a critical component of its renewable energy transition strategy.
