Renewables developer X-Elio has commenced operations for the second phase of its Turroneros solar farm, located in the municipality of Xixona, Alicante. The expansion adds 15MW to the facility, increasing its total installed capacity to 50MW.
The project is part of X-Elio's broader €250 million investment strategy in the Valencian community, which includes 283MW of renewable energy projects currently in various stages of development.
In addition to generating clean energy, X-Elio has implemented a range of local community initiatives. These include guided solar plant tours for schools and the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the path to Xixona Castle. These efforts form part of the company's commitment to environmental stewardship, education, and community engagement.
José Enrique Pardo, an X-Elio representative in the Murcia and Valencia regions, highlighted the significance of the Turroneros project. “This plant reflects the best practices that guide our daily operations: product quality, environmental responsibility, and community engagement,” Pardo said.
The expansion of the Turroneros facility comes at a crucial time for the Valencian region, which has faced challenges from recent extreme weather events. X-Elio aims to contribute to the ecological transition and support economic growth through its renewable energy investments.
