Finland's gas transmission system operator, Gasgrid, has enlisted Switzerland-based StreamTec Solutions AG (STS) as its owner's engineering partner for two hydrogen transmission projects in the Baltic Sea region.
The partnership is formalized through a framework contract spanning a minimum of four years, with an option for an additional four-year extension. The projects under this agreement include the Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector (BHC) and the Nordic Baltic Hydrogen Corridor (NBHC).
The BHC project aims to evaluate the feasibility of an offshore hydrogen pipeline system linking Finland, Sweden, and Central Europe. Meanwhile, the NBHC project focuses on creating a hydrogen infrastructure that connects Finland to Germany, traversing Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland. Both initiatives are targeted for completion by 2030.
StreamTec Solutions, based in Zug, Switzerland, brings expertise in project management, consulting, and engineering, with a focus on pipelines, wind power, and energy cables.
Commenting on the collaboration, a representative from Gasgrid highlighted the strategic importance of advancing hydrogen infrastructure to enhance regional energy connectivity. “This partnership underscores our commitment to sustainable energy solutions across the Baltic region,” the spokesperson stated.
These projects are part of broader efforts to accelerate the transition to clean energy and establish a robust hydrogen economy in Northern and Central Europe.
