HSM Offshore Energy Advances Work on Denmark’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm

Credit: HSM Offshore Energy

has achieved a significant milestone in ' 1,058-MW Thor wind project with the roll-out of the offshore high voltage substation (OHVS) and the lifting of GIS modules at its Schiedam facility in the Netherlands. Once operational, Thor will become 's largest offshore wind farm.

The OHVS will serve as the central hub for the wind farm, collecting electricity generated by the turbines and converting it to transmission-level voltage.

The green electricity will then be transported via export cables to the onshore substation at Volder Søndervang.

HSM Offshore Energy is overseeing the complete EPCIC (engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning) scope for the high-voltage substation and its jacket foundation.

Installation of the infrastructure is slated for 2025, with commissioning and testing planned for 2026. RWE Renewables is set to take operational control in the final quarter of that year.

Hans Leerdam, HSM Offshore Energy's commercial director, emphasized the project's importance: “Our successful roll-out of the THOR OHVS is an important milestone that showcases HSM Offshore Energy's commitment to advancing offshore renewable infrastructure. This project highlights the strength of our collaboration with RWE Renewables, and we are proud to work together toward a sustainable energy future. We are laying the groundwork for what will soon be Denmark's largest offshore wind farm, a vital step in Europe's green energy transition.”
