Hanseatic Hydrogen GmbH, a joint venture formed by , , and , has announced plans to install a 500 MW electrolyser for production in Stade, northern .

The project is designed to support the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries and contribute to the growing hydrogen market.

The facility will begin with a 100 MW electrolyser, expected to be operational by 2028. Following this, the plant could be expanded to its final capacity of 500 MW, with a final investment decision to be made by 2026.

The project has already secured a site at Stade Industrial Park and initiated planning for the required grid connections and water supply.

Hanseatic Hydrogen is currently preparing the necessary project approval documents, with construction slated to begin in 2026. Local hydrogen storage caverns will be used when production starts, and the region is expected to connect to Germany's hydrogen core network by 2028.

Sonja Leykam, head of business development at Hanseatic Hydrogen, emphasized the urgent need for reliable green hydrogen in Germany, stating, “From 2028 onward, our electrolyser will enable our customers in Germany to meet their hydrogen demands locally from Stade.”
