Nhoa Energy, the energy storage division of Nhoa Group, has received an order to supply two battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a combined capacity of 140 MW/105 MWh to Spain's power grid operator, Red Electrica de Espana (REE). The systems will be deployed in the Balearic Islands to support and enhance the region's electricity grids.
The two BESS units will be installed in substations across the islands, where they will help stabilize the electricity supply and optimize power exchanges with Mallorca Island. This project is set to become the largest storage-as-transmission asset in Southern Europe and the EU's largest smart grid battery storage initiative.
Fabrizio Ciaccia, Vice President EMEA of Nhoa Energy, commented on the project, stating, “By strengthening the interconnection between the islands and the mainland, the project shows how integrated energy storage solutions can be effectively implemented to foster the resiliency of national grids, in every landscape, especially in critical areas.”
Nhoa has already begun execution activities on the project, which marks a significant step toward enhancing grid reliability and facilitating renewable energy integration in the region.
