Eco Wave Power Global AB has received the final Nationwide Permit (NWP) from the US Army Corps of Engineers for its inaugural wave energy project at the Port of Los Angeles.
The company announced on Monday that the permit allows for the installation of eight wave energy floaters on the piles of an existing concrete wharf structure at the port. This project will feature the first onshore wave energy plant in the United States.
The facility will also include an energy conversion unit, which has already been shipped to the project site. Eco Wave Power expects the plant to be operational by the first quarter of next year. Shell International Exploration and Production Inc. is partnering with Eco Wave Power in the project's execution phase, following their collaboration agreement in April.
Inna Braverman, CEO of Eco Wave Power, emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “This project represents not only a technological breakthrough but also a crucial step in advancing the global transition to renewable energy.”
Additionally, Eco Wave Power has partnered with Taiwan's I-Ke International Ocean Energy to install Taiwan's first onshore wave energy station. This 100-kW facility has the potential to scale up to 400 MW.
