Swiss investment firm Avadis Anlagestiftung has acquired a major battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Bonaduz, in the canton of Graubünden. With a discharge load capacity of 50-60 MW and a storage capacity of 100-120 MWh, this project is set to become Switzerland's largest battery storage facility.
Developed by 49Komma8 AG, the BESS will be situated on a 5,500-square-meter industrial site near a substation, facilitating efficient integration into the local grid. The project, which is being supported by Aquila Capital as an adviser, is slated to begin construction in early 2026, with commissioning expected in 2027.
Avadis Anlagestiftung will own the project, while 49Komma8 AG will manage its development, construction, and implementation. Aquila Clean Energy EMEA will assist throughout the development, construction, and operational phases.
This acquisition reflects Avadis' commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and aligns with Switzerland's growing interest in energy storage solutions to enhance grid stability and support the transition to renewable energy.
