The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced an open tender for advisory services for a combined 1.6-gigawatt (GW) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant and a 1GW battery energy storage system (BESS). The energy storage system is planned to provide six hours of duration, enhancing the project's ability to supply power during peak demand periods and at night.
Independent power producers (IPP) are invited to submit bids for the project capacity through DEWA's online system by December 17. Full tender documentation is available for purchase on DEWA's website.
This project forms part of the UAE's expanding commitment to renewable energy. The country has already developed significant solar capacity, including the recently awarded 1.5GW Al Ajban solar project. In April, the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) contracted a consortium led by France's EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Company (KOWEPO) to develop the Al Ajban facility.
The co-located solar and storage system represents a step forward in integrating renewable energy and enhancing grid stability in the UAE.
