Specialist Marine Consultants (SMC) has been awarded a contract to provide offshore resources and services for RWE's Sofia offshore wind farm project. The project is scheduled to commence offshore construction later this year and is located on Dogger Bank in the central North Sea, approximately 195 km from the UK coast.
SMC will deliver a comprehensive range of services, including above-water offshore balance of plant works, statutory inspection and general maintenance of transition pieces, marine coordination resourcing, vessel inspections, project PPE management, specialist offshore construction resourcing, project consultancy support, and all associated project management. The company has previously provided similar services for RWE's Triton Knoll offshore wind farm in the UK.
The Sofia offshore wind farm project aims to become one of the largest single offshore wind farms in the world, with 100 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW wind turbines capable of generating 1.4 GW of electricity upon completion in 2026. The contract with SMC demonstrates RWE's commitment to working with experienced and reliable partners in the delivery of offshore wind projects.
SMC's expertise and capabilities position the project for success, and the renewable energy industry is expected to take another significant step forward with this project.
