LLC has secured a 20-year tolling agreement with Public Service (APS) for its 100-MW/400-MWh White Tank project, the company announced on Tuesday. Located near Avondale in Maricopa County, Arizona, the project is set for completion by April 2027. Under the agreement, APS will have the flexibility to charge and discharge the system as needed to meet grid demand.

The White Tank project was selected through APS's All-Source Request for Proposal, issued in June 2023, to procure about 1 GW of resources, including 700 MW of renewable energy. The project will add to Strata's portfolio, which already includes the Justice energy storage project, awarded a contract earlier in 2024.

Strata is focused on expanding its 7-GWh storage pipeline in Arizona, with more than 1.6 GWh of storage currently under construction. Tiago Sabino Dias, Chief Development Officer at Strata Clean Energy, commented, “Our experience in developing projects like White Tank enables us to support utilities like APS in reaching their energy goals.”

APS Vice President of Resource Management Brian Cole explained the value of the project: “The White Tank Energy Storage project will help increase our growing portfolio of innovative energy storage technologies. Resources like this store electricity generated when power is abundant. APS operators can later release it to our smart grid to meet customers' needs when the sun is setting and energy usage increases.”
