UAE-based renewable energy developer has partnered with Malaysia's and clean energy solutions provider Gentari to assess the feasibility of building a large-scale floating park in Sarawak.

The will focus on installing the solar park on the reservoir of the Murum plant in Borneo, evaluating technical feasibility, environmental impact, and economic viability.

If successful, this project will contribute to Sarawak's renewable energy capacity and support Malaysia's goal of reaching a 31% renewable energy share by 2025 and 40% by 2035.

The initiative could also serve as a template for future renewable projects in land-scarce regions of Malaysia.

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi emphasized that combining expertise in solar and floating PV innovations could accelerate Malaysia's energy transition and support economic growth.

The proposed project follows Masdar's recent agreement with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority to pursue up to 10 GW of renewable projects in the country.
