Polish utility Tauron Polska Energia SA has officially commissioned its 58.5-MW wind farm in Mierzyn, located in the West Pomeranian province.
The wind farm consists of 15 turbines, each with a capacity of 3.9 MW, and is expected to generate 160 GWh of electricity annually. This output will meet the energy needs of approximately 68,000 households and contribute to a reduction of 140,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The Mierzyn wind farm marks Tauron's 12th onshore wind project, bringing its total onshore wind capacity to 506 MW. Michał Orłowski, vice-president of Tauron's management board, highlighted that the company is also focused on further expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
By the end of 2024, Tauron plans to commission two more wind farms—Warblewo (30 MW) and Gamow (33 MW)—as well as develop additional onshore projects, including Miejska Gorka (190 MW), Sieradz (24 MW), and Nowa Brzeznica (20 MW).
Tauron is also progressing with three solar photovoltaic farms totaling 199 MW and continues to operate 34 hydroelectric power plants, reinforcing its commitment to growing its green energy capacity.
