Argentine power producer Genneia has announced the commencement of commercial operations at its 162-MW La Elbita wind farm, located in Buenos Aires province.
The wind farm, which marks the company's eighth wind project and its third in Buenos Aires, represents a significant step in Genneia's renewable energy expansion.
The project was made possible through a total investment of over USD 240 million (EUR 225.9 million), raised through a combination of domestic and international financing sources.
The funds included loans from Dutch development bank FMO, Canada's Development Finance Institute (FinDev Canada), and proceeds from a green bond issuance in the Argentine market.
La Elbita spans 1,464 hectares (3,617.6 acres) near the town of Tandil and is equipped with 36 wind turbines. These turbines are expected to generate 705 GWh of electricity annually, which will be supplied to large industrial consumers via Argentina's MATER green energy marketplace.
With the launch of La Elbita, Genneia's total installed renewable capacity has reached 1,166 MW, surpassing the 1 GW milestone earlier this year.
This includes a mix of wind and solar energy projects across the country. In addition, the company is progressing with the construction of the 90-MW Malargue I and 180-MW Anchoris solar farms, further expanding its renewable energy footprint.
