Cero Generation has successfully connected its Larks Green co-located solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) to the UK transmission network.
This milestone follows the energisation of the 49.5MW/99MWh BESS facility, provided by E-Storage, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar.
The addition of the battery storage system transforms the Larks Green project into the first transmission-connected co-located energy producing facility in the UK.
Located in Gloucestershire, the 70MW Larks Green solar project had already connected to the grid in April 2023. With the integration of battery storage, the project now enables more flexible delivery of power to the grid, supporting the UK's energy transition.
Cero Generation's CEO, Marta Martinez Queimadelos, emphasized the significance of the BESS energisation, noting that the project will help balance demand and generation, lower energy costs for households, and reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels.
