The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has awarded funding to the Cross Border Pomeranian Cluster project, which aims to explore the production of green hydrogen in West Pomerania, Poland, and its connection to both Poland's and 's hydrogen networks.

The initial funding of EUR 190,000 (USD 205,000) will support feasibility studies, particularly focusing on the integration of electrolysers with the European hydrogen network.

This includes assessing the planned connection to Poland's national hydrogen network and the potential cross-border integration of the and German networks, as explained by PNE AG, a German renewables developer, one of the project partners.

The project brings together PNE and its Polish subsidiary Sevivon, as well as Poland's state-owned gas grid operator Gaz-System and Germany's transmission system operator Gascade Gastransport GmbH.

The aim is to analyze the potential for green hydrogen production in Poland's West Pomeranian province, where Sevivon plans to build wind farms and photovoltaic plants with a combined capacity of around 2 GW.

These renewable assets will power two 500 MW electrolysers for green hydrogen production, which can then be delivered to end users in both Poland and Germany.

Additionally, Gaz-System is conducting a project called the Hydrogen Map of Poland, which assesses market interest in hydrogen transmission networks and is engaged in dialogues regarding other cross-border hydrogen initiatives, such as the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor.

This initiative is part of the EU's Connecting Facility (CEF) Energy funding program for the 2021-2027 period, which supports cross-border projects.
