Germany-based CMBlu Energy has received a EUR 30 million (USD 32.3 million) grant from the Greek energy ministry to support its plan to build a gigafactory in Greece by 2026.
This funding aligns with the Greek government's aim to integrate advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) with renewable energy and reduce dependency on imported technologies.
The grant falls under Greece's “Produc-e Green” programme, a EUR 200 million EU-funded initiative that supports sustainable projects under the country's Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The programme prioritizes sectors such as electric vehicle production, EV chargers, battery manufacturing and recycling, photovoltaic panels, wind turbine components, and other green technologies.
The upcoming Greek factory will expand CMBlu's production capacity, especially for its Organic SolidFlow battery technology. Designed for long-duration energy storage, this technology utilizes readily available raw materials, offering a sustainable and scalable solution.
CMBlu, backed by a EUR 100 million investment from Austria's Strabag SE in 2023, is advancing its technology to help bolster the renewable energy sector.
