SSE Renewables has made a final investment decision to launch construction on its first Italian wind farms, Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva, located in , southern .

Construction on the projects, which have a combined capacity of 17.3 MW, is expected to begin shortly.

The projects will feature five SG 3.4-132 turbines and aim for commercial operations by 2026. At peak construction, the wind farms are expected to support approximately 70 local jobs, contributing to the regional economy and supply chain.

Upon completion, the facilities are projected to generate renewable energy sufficient to power around 6,000 homes annually.

These projects expand SSE's Southern European renewable portfolio, with over 100 MW currently under construction.

Elsewhere, SSE is commissioning its 28 MW Chaintrix wind farm in France for early 2025 and progressing with its 64 MW Jubera project in , also targeted for completion in 2025.

Gianluca Mercurio, SSE Renewables' Country Manager for Italy, noted the significance of the projects: “We are delighted to be starting construction on our Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva wind farms in Puglia. These are strategic projects for SSE Renewables as they are our first wind farms to enter construction in Italy. When complete, these wind farms will play an important role in generating homegrown renewable energy from Puglia for Italian energy consumers, helping strengthen security of supply and meeting vital climate targets.”
