Brazil added 1,208 MW of new renewable energy capacity in October, according to the country's power sector regulator Aneel.
The largest contribution came from wind farms, with 19 newly installed facilities accounting for 688.9 MW. Additionally, 15 solar parks brought 514.01 MW to the grid, and a small hydropower plant added 5.1 MW.
Overall, Brazil connected 1,533.89 MW of new capacity to the grid, with 325.88 MW coming from thermal power plants.
Over the first ten months of 2024, the country's electricity system expanded by 9,353.76 MW, with 90.22% of this growth coming from renewable sources. As of November 1, Brazil's total installed power generation capacity stood at 207,029.1 MW, with 84.8% derived from renewable energy.
This ongoing expansion points to a record-breaking year for Brazil's electricity mix, following a similar achievement in 2023.
