BlueFloat Energy's Gippsland Dawn offshore wind project, which has the potential to generate up to 2.1 GW of renewable power, has been granted Major Project Status by the Australian government.
This designation ensures that the project will receive dedicated support from the Major Projects Facilitation Agency, which will assign a case manager to assist BlueFloat Energy through the government's approvals processes.
The Gippsland Dawn project, which received a feasibility licence earlier this year, plans to install up to 140 turbines on fixed foundations located 10-33 kilometers (6.2-20.5 miles) off the coast of Gippsland, Victoria, between Paradise Beach and Ocean Grange. The project is slated for construction in 2029 and aims to become operational by 2031.
Nick Sankey, BlueFloat Energy's country manager, expressed excitement about the recognition, stating, “This is an exciting development for BlueFloat Energy, recognising the effort we and many others are putting towards making Gippsland Dawn a success and part of Australia's renewable future.”
The Gippsland Dawn project joins 15 other projects in Australia to have received Major Project Status, with the Star of the South offshore wind farm, also located off the Gippsland coast, being the only other offshore wind project to gain this designation.
