has officially begun construction of its operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the Thor wind farm in Thorsminde, . The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the Port of Thorsminde, marks the official start of the project. Once complete, the base will accommodate a team of 50 to 60 employees who will work in shifts to operate and maintain the 1 GW wind farm.

The construction of the building, covering 2,300 square meters across three floors, is expected to take about 12 months. The facility will include a control room to monitor and manage the wind farm's activities, warehousing, office spaces, a conference room, and a canteen with a rooftop terrace offering unique views of the and Nissum Fjord. The design of the building, including its materials and colors, is inspired by the surrounding dunes and grass, providing a sense of warmth and connection to the landscape.

RWE Denmark's CEO, Pernille Asgaard Haaning, said, “Our Thor offshore wind farm is located approximately 22km from the Danish Port of Thorsminde. The port therefore offers the shortest sea route to the wind farm – making Thorsminde the ideal place for our new operations and maintenance base.”

The new service base is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, with crew transfer vessels beginning daily operations in spring 2026. RWE plans to operate the Thor wind farm from this base for at least 30 years, contributing to Denmark's renewable energy ambitions while creating up to 60 permanent local jobs. The investment is seen as a key step in supporting both the green transition and the economic development of the Thorsminde area.

Kenneth Tonning, Chairman of the Technical Committee in Holstebro Municipality, commented, “The fact that RWE has chosen Thorsminde as the service port for Thor offshore wind farm and is now beginning construction of the operations building, at the same time as we inaugurate the new access road to the port, emphasises the important strategic role of Thorsminde and Holstebro Municipality in the green transition.”
