SSE Renewables has successfully generated its first renewable energy in mainland Europe with the 28 MW Chaintrix-Bierges and Velye wind farm in Marne, France. This marks SSE's first onshore wind farm project from its Southern European portfolio to enter construction. The wind farm, which consists of eight Siemens Gamesa SG3.4-132 MW turbines, is on track for commercial operations expected in early 2025.
All turbines have been installed, and with first power now achieved, the commissioning and testing phase is underway. Greensolver, a European asset management company, has been appointed to provide ongoing operation and maintenance services once the wind farm is fully operational.
Ross Fenton, SSE Renewables' director of asset management, emphasized the company's commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint internationally, noting that this project is part of a broader 1 GW pipeline of onshore projects across SSE's home and new markets.
Greensolver will oversee the daily operations of the wind farm, ensuring continuous monitoring, maintenance, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Clement Iafrate, Greensolver's wind asset management team leader in France, highlighted the company's extensive experience in asset management, which includes more than 6 GW of managed capacity across Europe.
This collaboration is a significant milestone for both SSE and Greensolver as they work to ensure the wind farm operates efficiently and contributes to France's renewable energy goals.
