Vestas has inaugurated a new production line in Taranto, southern Italy, dedicated to manufacturing blades for its 15-MW offshore wind turbine, the V236-15.0 MW model.
This expansion at the Taranto facility marks a pivotal step in Vestas' efforts to deliver powerful offshore wind solutions, with the company noting that the project “marks a new milestone in Vestas' journey to supply an offshore wind turbine that will push the boundaries of wind energy globally.”
The new production line has already had a substantial impact on local employment in Puglia, with the workforce at the Taranto plant growing from around 700 to over 1,600 over the past year.
To meet the increased production demands, Vestas anticipates employing an additional 2,000 people at the site in the coming months, creating approximately 1,300 new jobs for the V236 project overall.
“We are confident that the V236-15.0 MW will benefit from the expertise and experience that has been accumulated at our Taranto plant since 1998,” Vestas added, emphasizing the plant's role in advancing its offshore wind capabilities.
