ACCIONA Energía and The Blue Circle, a participated company, have won a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for five wind projects with a total capacity of 436MW in Thailand. The projects were awarded through a tender process by the Office of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and will be developed in stages. The construction of the first wind farm is expected to begin in 2024, while the completion dates for the other projects will range from 2026 to 2030.
All the energy generated by the wind farms will be purchased directly by the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT) through a 25-year PPA. The Thai government aims to ensure that up to 30% of its energy supply comes from renewable sources by 2037. The wind farms will be located in Ubon Ratchatani, Amnat Charoen, and Chaiyaphum, and are expected to generate 1,141 GWh/year, reducing CO2 emissions by 645,000 tons annually. This is equivalent to removing 250,000 cars from circulation or planting 19 million trees.

ACCIONA Energía and The Blue Circle signed a strategic agreement in September 2022 to develop, build, and operate renewable energy projects in Southeast Asia. The joint venture, headquartered in Singapore, has an operational capacity of 84MW in Vietnam and a development pipeline of 3.8GW in Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.
Winning the five new wind projects in Thailand reinforces ACCIONA Energía's presence in the region and supports the company's growth and geographic diversification plans. The wind farms will contribute to Thailand's efforts to transition to a more sustainable energy system, while also generating significant social and environmental benefits.
