announced the successful installation of 78 monopile foundations and 4 substation foundations for its Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project, achieving its initial target for the 2023 season. Located 27 miles off Virginia Beach, CVOW, the largest offshore wind project currently under construction in the U.S., will eventually feature 176 turbines with a combined capacity of 2,600 MW—enough to power approximately 660,000 homes.

In addition to providing clean energy, the project is expected to deliver significant fuel savings, projected at $3 billion for Dominion's customers over the first decade of operation. The construction of CVOW remains on budget and on schedule for completion by late 2026.

Over the upcoming months, Dominion will focus on additional work, including installing the first offshore substation, laying export cables, advancing onshore transmission construction, and placing transition pieces atop the monopiles in preparation for turbine installation in 2025.

“Our Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project shows that regulated offshore wind works in the United States,” said , Dominion's chair, president, and CEO. “As we face unprecedented customer demand, offshore wind is critical to our diverse, all-of-the-above generation mix to keep the lights on for our customers with affordable, reliable, and increasingly clean energy.”

The monopile foundations, currently staged at Portsmouth Marine Terminal, are manufactured by EEW SPC and will support turbines. Installation of the next set of monopiles is scheduled to resume in May 2025, in alignment with CVOW's construction timeline.
