Enel Chile is set to commence commercial operations of its 67-MW/134-MWh El Manzano battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, following the successful completion of tests and receipt of approval from the grid operator.
This marks the completion of the company's first energy cluster in the capital region, which includes the El Manzano BESS and an associated solar farm.
The 99-MW El Manzano solar farm began operations earlier this year. Together, the BESS and the solar facility are expected to inject approximately 226 GWh of electricity into the grid annually, enough to power around 75,000 homes in Chile.
Additionally, the BESS will enhance the stability and security of the electricity system by providing complementary services such as frequency regulation.
The project was developed by Enel Chile's renewables arm, Enel Green Power, and aligns with the company's strategy to position renewable energy and storage solutions near major consumption centers.
