Engie North America, a subsidiary of French utility Engie SA, has announced a significant agreement with Meta Platforms Inc to provide the entirety of the output from its 260-MW Sypert Branch solar project located in Texas.
The solar project, which is currently under development, is situated approximately 10 miles (16 km) from Meta's data center in Temple and is anticipated to commence operations in late 2025.
The deal encompasses a purchase agreement for the renewable energy produced by the project, along with its associated environmental attributes, which will bolster Meta's energy requirements in support of its net-zero goals.
Urvi Parekh, head of clean energy at Meta, commented, “Since 2020, we have maintained net zero emissions in our global operations – these efforts are supported by relationships such as those with Engie who can consistently deliver and operate projects like Sypert Branch to help meet our energy needs.”
Once operational, the Sypert Branch project will enhance Engie's North American portfolio, which includes approximately 8 GW of renewable projects either in operation or under construction.
The company has also been active in securing power purchase agreements (PPAs) in the US, having signed nearly 1 GW since the start of 2024. Recently, Engie struck a deal to supply green power to Google LLC from its 350-MW Chillingham solar project in Texas, expected to come online later this year.
