Saudi renewables developer ACWA Power Co has announced the commissioning of the 200-MW Kom Ombo solar park in Egypt and the partial synchronisation of its Redstone Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plant in South Africa.
The Kom Ombo photovoltaic (PV) project, now operational, will provide enough energy to power approximately 200,000 homes in Egypt, realized at a cost of around USD 182 million.
Meanwhile, the Redstone CSP plant in South Africa's Northern Cape province has been partially connected to the grid, currently supplying electricity from half of its 100-MW capacity, with full output expected shortly.
Once fully operational, the Redstone plant will also meet the energy needs of about 200,000 South African homes.
ACWA Power's global portfolio spans 65 GW, with approximately USD 7 billion invested in African energy projects.
