Bermuda's Deputy Premier, Walter Roban, recently attended the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum in Miami, where he discussed the country's progress on environmentally friendly policies. The three-day event, which took place at the end of April, is known as the largest annual gathering of the Caribbean renewable energy market.
During the conference, Mr Roban participated in a ministerial discussion focused on the region's energy security and climate resilience efforts. He also received the CREF industry award in the Best e-Mobility Project category for Bermuda's electrification of its public bus fleet.
Mr Roban highlighted Bermuda's remarkable progress in renewable energy development, citing the country's improvement in CREF's ranking system. He said, “A few years ago, Bermuda was hovering near the bottom of CREF's ranking, gauging countries' readiness to develop renewable energy. Our good work in governance and regulation has had a significant impact on our placement. Of all the countries in the region, we are much nearer to the top in sixth place.”
Bermuda's success in implementing environmentally friendly policies and programs demonstrates the country's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices. The electrification of public transportation, in particular, is a significant step forward in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.
As the world continues to face the threat of climate change, it's crucial for countries to prioritize renewable energy development and sustainable practices. Bermuda's progress is an excellent example for other countries to follow, and its efforts should be commended and encouraged.
