Recurrent Energy’s 100-MW Liberty Solar Plant Near Houston Begins Operations

announced on Thursday that its plant, with a capacity of 100 MWac (134 MWdc), has officially commenced commercial operations. The facility, situated in Liberty County approximately 50 miles (80.5 km) northeast of Houston, falls within the service area of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO).

The project was financed through a construction loan and facilities from , Nord LB, and U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance, which also provided tax equity support. The Liberty Solar plant is capable of generating enough electricity to power around 15,000 homes annually.

Recurrent Energy secured five off-takers for its power production, including technology group EMD Electronics, biotech firm Biogen Inc, e-commerce company Inc, software developer Autodesk Inc, and an unnamed customer.

, CEO of Recurrent Energy, remarked, “Liberty Solar is a fantastic project that expands Recurrent Energy's project ownership in MISO. We are thrilled to complete this project on time and on budget in support of the renewable energy goals of our customers.” As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc , Recurrent Energy plans to retain long-term ownership and operation of the project.
