Ocean Winds (OW) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Brazil's Rio Grande do Norte State Federal University (UFRN) to facilitate knowledge exchange in offshore wind energy.
The joint venture, formed by EDP Renewables and Engie SA, aims to leverage its extensive experience from developing projects totaling 18.5 GW, which includes 1.5 GW currently operational and an additional 2 GW under construction.
The partnership will focus on addressing the specific skills required in the offshore wind industry, enhancing local expertise in the sector. This announcement follows a recent collaboration with Brazilian power distributor Eletrobras, aimed at jointly developing offshore wind projects in Brazil.
Ocean Winds currently holds 15 GW of projects registered with Brazil's domestic environmental regulator, IBAMA, spanning five initiatives in the states of Piaui, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio de Janeiro, and Rio Grande do Sul.
