Oceans of Energy has successfully delivered the first solar floaters to the Port of Amsterdam for CrossWind's Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) offshore photovoltaic (PV) farm. These modular, prefab units are set to be installed at the Dutch 759MW HKN offshore wind farm.
The solar arrays are part of a pioneering initiative to create the largest offshore PV farm in the North Sea, which will also mark the first integration of offshore solar with offshore wind and hydrogen. The installation is scheduled for 2025.
According to Oceans of Energy, the Port of Amsterdam is an ideal location for deploying this system. The company noted that its modular design allows for rapid and straightforward assembly. In previous demonstrations in Belgium, the modular system was fully assembled and deployed in just a few days without the need for heavy equipment or specialized vessels.
Oceans of Energy is preparing for the tow-out of 7MW batches through the sea sluice of IJmuiden, signaling a significant step forward in offshore solar technology.
